Benefit Art Auction
Time: 7:45pm -
Location: Prater Hall, Rose Center
Art lovers will have a wonderful opportunity to add to their collections at the Rose Center Art Auction on June 5. It has been two years since the last auction and the basic silent auction and live auction format is still in place with some fun new twists. The Silent Auction will be expanded and an Artist’s Reception is being added.
This year the silent auction will be open the entire week prior to the live auction. Items will be on display in the Jean Keener Community Room June 1-5 during regular business hours, 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday-Friday, and 9 AM to 7:30 PM on Thursday. Bids will be accepted throughout the week for registered buyers. For those unable to attend the full auction on Friday night, this is an opportunity to register for a $10 fee and bid early on some beautiful art and craft items. Admission for the live auction is $25, which includes the Artists’ Reception and the opportunity to bid early on the silent auction items.
An Artists’ Reception will kick off the June 5 event at 6:30 PM. Many of the talented artists who donated items to the auction will be on hand to discuss their work. Learn about their inspiration, special techniques and more. Delicious hors d’oeurves, wine, punch and a cash bar will be available. Special entertainment will be provided by Favorite Strings, a group of area women who play traditional Appalachian instruments, including dulcimers, hammered dulcimer and mandolins, along with a stand-up bass, flute and even harmonica. Bidding on the silent auction items will continue through the Artists Reception and close at 7:30 PM.
The live auction begins at 7:45 PM in Prater Hall. Brad Setsor will wield the gavel this year. Art and fine craft items to be auctioned include woodcarvings, framed original oil paintings, watercolor paintings, pastels, glass, porcelain, soft sculpture and much more. Other items included in the sale are a week in a private condo at a popular vacation spot, a gourmet dinner and beautiful corner cabinet. Friendly competition among bidders and a little goading from their friends makes for a fun evening. Tickets to the auction are available from any Rose Center Board member or in the Rose Center office. More information is available by calling the office at 581-4330.
